A new and exciting business venture was announced at a press conference in Manama, Bahrain, which aims to facilitate greater trade between Bahrain and Indonesia through a dedicated marketplace. The Garuda City Plan, a mall-style marketplace, is set to support the expansion of Indonesian SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) into the Middle Eastern market while strengthening Bahrain’s bilateral trade relationship with Indonesia.
The initiative is a collaboration between KHK Holding, Exelon, Smexindo, and SRAM & MRAM Resources Company, with a vision to bring together between 500 to 700 SMEs, most of which will be Indonesian, along with a selection of Bahrain-based businesses. The marketplace will cater to both Business to Consumer (B2C) and Business to Business (B2B) relationships, offering a platform for local businesses to showcase their products, expand their reach, and establish trade links across the Middle East.
Sailesh Lachu Hiranandani, Chairman of SRAM & MRAM Resources Company, highlighted the significance of the project, explaining that this marketplace will serve as a central hub for B2B and B2C transactions, making it easier for Indonesian SMEs to tap into the Middle East market. Additionally, the project will feature an Industrial Park, where some of the SMEs will be able to manufacture their products locally in Bahrain, using raw materials imported into the region.
The event also featured key figures like Samsul Hadi, Founder Chairman of Smexindo & Indukumkm, and Mohammad Mansoor, CEO of Exelon Industrial Solutions, as well as Mohammad Shahid, CEO of KHK Holdings. Nur Syahrir Rahardjo, the Indonesian Ambassador, expressed his support for the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of Bahrain as a trading gateway into the Middle East.
In line with the initiative, KHK Holdings plans to organize sporting events in Indonesia, with at least two competitions annually in cities such as Jakarta and Bali, further strengthening the cultural and business ties between the two countries.
The Garuda City Plan is a promising venture that will not only provide Indonesian SMEs with a significant opportunity to expand their markets but also create a dynamic business ecosystem in the region, fostering long-term economic growth for both Bahrain and Indonesia.
